A strategy outline: Taking whole of school action
Information management isnt about proscribing how people access, use, and apply information; rather it is about empowering them to use it responsibly through providing knowledge, tools, and support.
The Copyright Aware website can assist you with this empowerment, but much depends on you as school leader being the motivator of change. The copyright challenge for your school concerns the dynamic between people, content and technology.
The people
Managing in your school the:
- staff whose responsibilities include operation and supervision of technology and provision of and communication of copyright materials;
- education of the school community in relation to legal obligations under copyright law and maintaining the currency of that understanding;
- adherence by staff to relevant legislative requirements of the Copyright Act 1968; and
- completion of any necessary documentation associated with statutory licensing as required.
The content
Managing in your school the:
- access to both hard copy and electronic copyright material;
- reproduction, communication and publication of copyright materials; and
- associated legal and operational information required to accompany copyright material that is reproduced, communicated and published.
The technology
Managing in your school the:
- use of technology to reproduce and communicate copyright material;
- placement and environment that technology operates in; and
- legal and operational information associated with that technology.
At a pragmatic level strategisation often comes down to a series of simple steps and tasks, the why, what, who and how. Hopefully the why is obvious from the preceding content you have read. The following action pack might assist you to detail the what, who and how.
